Search - Antiquitas

I bet people were not expecting this, but Antiquitas has just received a major update to v1.31.0, rolling in all code and engine updates from My Colony v1.19 - v1.30, which constitutes a lot of changes. The game has also been migrated over to it's own server and domain. So what all is new? Let's see!

The first major change is that the game has been migrated from Ape Web Apps over to it's own domain at antiquitas.app. There are two new URLs, the game server and stats pages are located at https://antiquitas.app/ and the game itself is now hosted at https://play.antiquitas.app/. Anybody who was using the Antiquitas PWA should uninstall the old and reinstall at the new locations. Players using the Ape Apps Launcher or a packaged distribution should not notice a difference.

A ton of bug fixes and QOL improvements have been added to the My Colony engine over the past year and a half since Antiquitas was updated, and it would be cumbersome to list them all out, but I will just mention a few of the major ones. Trade cooldown times have been reduced significantly, deportation related bugs have been corrected, encyclopedia entry sorting has been improved, the bulldozer will now sell buildings instead of just destroying them, charter code lengths have been increased to prevent collisions, colony statistics have been improved, technology can now be purchased using Ape Coins, new information window and fixes for the Alliances feature (federations in My Colony), etc.

In addition to the above, Antiquitas now has the in-game challenges feature!

For unfamiliar players, Challenges allow cities and alliances to compete against each other for resource production. Challenges will last for different timeframes, and players will earn trophies by completing. This feature gives players something to do who have already reached late game stages.

Antiquitas also now has the ability to offer premium structures in the way that My Colony does, although I do not have any planned at the moment. If there is interest from the players for Antiquitas premium structures, then I can see what I can do.

The downside to the update and migration is that all of the colony stats, including alliance infomation, was wiped from the server. There were so many server code changes from the last release to the current that it was not practical to migrate things over. I hope that this does not cause too much anger, but it should realistically be a one time deal, now that the code base between the two My Colony engine games is synchronized again for the first time in a long time.

So that is the new Antiquitas update, and I hope you all enjoy. The update is currently live on the Web and the Ape Apps Launcher, and should be hitting mobile and Steam by Monday or Tuesday. There are also come code fixes I noticed in this update that I need to port back over to the original My Colony, so that will be happening soon as well. So try it out, update your bookmarks, let me know what you think, and thanks for playing Antiquitas!

Antiquitas v1.23.0 has just been released, and the patch should be hitting all platforms within the coming days. This update rolls up the engine upgrades from My Colony patches v0.82.0, v0.83.0, and v0.84.0. These patches include tons of bug fixes and performance improvements, but that's not all. With this update brings the Import/Export slider, allowing you to fine tune the amount of goods you buy and sell. In-app notifications for LAN multiplayer games have been revamped. The bulldozer tool has received a significant upgrade, allowing you to click + drag to bulldoze multiple structures at a time. Many improvements have been made to Regions as well.

Even though My Colony is vastly more popular than Antiquitas, Antiquitas is still able to take full advantage of My Colony's popularity by running off of the same core engine, so you can expect a constant flow of improvements and feature updates to Antiquitas for a long time to come.

And remember, if you are only playing Antiquitas on Steam, you may not realize that you can also take it with you on the go. Antiquitas is available on Android and iOS as well, and if you sign in using your Ape Apps account, your full premium content from Steam will transfer over to mobile. Find all download links here:

Enjoy the update, much more to come, and thanks for playing Antiquitas!

Over the coming days, Antiquitas v1.17.0 will be rolling out to all platforms. This update includes the following new Egyptian structures:

- School of Dancers
- Dancers Pavilion
- Chariot Factory
- Chariot Races

Along with the new content, Antiquitas v1.17.0 rolls out the new Regions feature, that was recently introduced into My Colony.

Regions allow you to group multiple smaller city files into one regional mega city with a shared population, production, and technology research pool. A region can contain up to 2,500 individual city files, although I would be shocked if anybody actually built out a region that big. It is a fun new way to play the game though.

Finally, this is the version of Antiquitas that will be rolling out to Steam on September 29th, so I do not expect any further Antiquitas updates until after that date, as I need to have the code base stabilized. If you have not done so yet, please go to the Antiquitas Steam page and add it to your wish list! Even if you do not plan on buying the same, adding it to your wish list will help give the game a visibility boost when it is launched, so I would certainly appreciate it! You can find the Antiquitas Steam page here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/935750/Antiquitas/

You can probably also just search for Antiquitas within the Steam client.

That's all for today's update, thanks for playing and stay tuned for more!

A few weeks ago, I announced that Antiquitas would be coming to Steam, and today it has officially arrived! You can download Antiquitas on Steam today from the following page:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/935750/Antiquitas/

This is my first ever game to be released on Steam, so check it out, show your support, and let me know what you think! If it goes over well, I will be bringing My Colony to the platform next. I just want to make sure that it will be worth the trouble first, based on the reception of Antiquitas, since they do charge $100 per game that you want to list on the Steam platform.

Remember that if you do buy Antiquitas on Steam, once you sign into the game using your Ape Apps Account, you will get unlocked access to Premium on all supported platforms, which for Antiquitas, is pretty much any device that you have. This does not go the other way around though (if you already bough Premium, it does not unlock the game on Steam), but if you have already purchased the game in the past, you don't even need the Steam client, as you can get either the Native Client from the Ape Market, or just play the game on the Ape Apps Launcher.

That said, if you do buy it on Steam (or buy it again because you just love the game that much and it's cheap 🙂), please leave a good review for it on the Steam marketplace, to help give the game a good launch out of the gate!

Thanks to everyone for their support, and thank you for playing Antiquitas!

Today I am putting the finishing touches on Antiquitas v1.28.0 and pushing it out to all platforms, and this probably the most significant update to the game since it first came out. As I was playing Antiquitas the other day, I thought ya know, gee. Why don't I just port the My Colony online server over to Antiquitas? So, that's what I did, and now we have Antiquitas: The Online Update!

If you are familiar with My Colony, the online experience for Antiquitas will be familiar to you. You are now able to start a new city in online mode, under the tutelage of another real life online player whose city has gained independence. That player will be able to help you get started and grow your civilization. Online global chat is also now enabled in the game, allowing players to communicate and help each other while they play.

The three Docks structures in the game have gained online resource trading capabilities. Building the docks will unlock the global online resource marketplace, where you can buy and sell resources with other players.

Every online city will also now gain it's own city website, located at https://antiquitas.my-colony.com. Right now the website is loaded with My Colony references, as I basically just copied the My Colony website and made some conversions to support Antiquitas, but the site will be updated within the coming days.

Since the online feature does copy a lot of code from My Colony, I may have missed some My Colony references in the game, so let me know if you find things that are out of place.

Anyway, since there was so much code copy/pasting to get online working, I consider it somewhat experimental in this update, and the next update will clean up anything that is amiss. That said, I don't really expect a lot of problems, since the online code has been pretty well hashed out over a long history of My Colony updates, but we will see what happens.

So go ahead and give Antiquitas online a try, and stay tuned for more to come!

So I have just finalized work on My Colony v0.73.0, which should be arriving to all platforms over the coming days! So let's take a look at what is new in this release.

First of all, I started toying with adding a musical soundtrack to the game. I am finding it difficult to find music for the game, tbh. It was a lot easier for Antiquitas, because of the ancient theme of the game. For My Colony, I tried to find some sci-fi type stuff, but I don't know. I will probably be tweaking with the songs, adding and removing some, over the coming updates. As I prepare My Colony for Steam, I want it to have a soundtrack fleshed out and ready for the first release. And remember, if you do not like the music, you can always turn it on or off in the Engine Settings menu.

And as I mentioned in the last paragraph, My Colony will indeed be coming to Steam soon. I released Antiquitas on Steam first, as sort of a canary in the coal mine, to test the waters and see how hard it would be to release the game, versus what the potential payoff would be. It turns out that adapting the current Native Client for Steam was (almost) trivial, and so far the reception seems to be positive, so My Colony will be coming to the Steam platform for sure. I want to take the next couple of My Colony updates to polish a couple of things (including the Music), and get the Reptilians fleshed out a little bit more, and then I will start on the Steam edition of the game. It will probably be live on Steam by mid-November, but I will let you all know for sure as I get further along.

Speaking of Steam, I have to throw in a quick plug for Antiquitas here. If you haven't checked it out, please consider getting Antiquitas on Steam (and leaving a good review afterwards)! It is cheap, and it goes a long way towards helping Ape Apps and funding the development of My Colony (Antiquitas too, obviously) and maintaining the online servers. I don't think I'm speaking out of line when I say that both of these games provide massive gameplay for the price (especially considering most people pay $0!), and they both keep getting updates on a regular basis, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated! But don't worry, I still appreciate the many players who pay nothing at all 🙂

https://store.steampowered.com/app/935750/Antiquitas/

Moving on, there were a lot of bugs fixed in this update, the biggest one being related to offline/local/LAN multiplayer. It actually was completely broken in the last update, so it has been improved greatly! I didn't even know it was dead until I submitted Antiquitas to the Steam marketplace, and it was rejected for claiming it had offline multiplayer, and the multiplayer didn't even work 😕 oops!

Next, I addressed an issue where colonies who were experiencing Rioting or Anarchy conditions would constantly spam their commonwealths with notifications. This should be corrected now, but let me know if it isn't.

There was also a change in how colonists deaths were reported. If colonists start dying off left and right, you will no longer get a screen full of notifications, as there is now a cooldown timer for how often "Colonist has Died" notifications can appear.

Next, I have changed the Galactic Emperor video ads for premium users. In fact, they no longer exist for premium users. Instead, if you have Premium, the Galactic Emperor will now just give you the gift, no ad watching required. Someone in the forums pointed out that buying premium should remove all ads entirely, and I agreed to this sentiment.

I have also made a fairly significant change to the engine, which will not be noticed at first, but will be important later on. Each Vehicle and Building in the game is now assigned to a "Player." Obviously right now, the game only has one player (You), so this doesn't really mean anything. The game now also keeps track of Resources, Utilities, and Unlocked Techs on a per-player basis. I will let you all use your imaginations (for now) as to what this all means.

Ok, so now it wouldn't be a My Colony update without some new structures, so let's go over the new Reptilian content that was added in this update. The Reptilians get two much needed (in my opinion) structures, the Crystalline Laser Drill and the Bug Saw.

The Crystalline Laser Drill is a Water generating structure, but it also randomly extracts a few other resources, like Uranium, Clay and Diamonds.

The Bug Saw is a new Food generation structure, which chops up poor Insectoids into food, and also creates Ant Paste, which was pretty hard to get before.

Finally, I just wanted to give you all an update on the Android bugs that have been killing My Colony on Google Play. The good news is the crash rate has been brought all the way down to the 2%(ish) range, which is a significant drop from the 10% range. Google Play says that the "Bad Behavior Threshold" for a game is something like 1.06%, so maybe I can get below that number at some point and they can un-blacklist the game. Who knows? I know the current 2% includes many users who are still on older versions of the game, so it is possible that the "dark days" for My Colony on Android are drawing to an end. I can only hope. As always, if you are on Android and getting a lot of force close errors, let me know in the comments to this article, as the bug reports provided by the Play Store are essentially useless.

Ok everyone, so that is it for today's My Colony update! Let me know what issues you run into, and stay tuned because there is a lot more to come!

Antiquitas v1.7.0 has just been wrapped up and it's starting to make its way to various platforms. Here is the expected release schedule:

Web: Available Now
Ape Apps Launcher: Available Now
Windows Store: Available Tomorrow
iPhone/iPad: Available Tomorrow
Android: Available Later This Week
Native Clients: Available Later This Week

The issue with the Android and Native Clients is that my main development machine is currently down and so I will be spending the next couple of days getting everything back up and running and will be unable to publish updates to Android or the Native Clients before then. My iOS and Windows development is done on different machines, so they were not impacted, and the Ape Apps Launcher is automatically self-updating and so does not require anything special on my part.

This is the second Gaul update, and includes 15 fresh new Gaul buildings straight from graphics mastermind @jova . Also included are two new premium structures and a new resource: Wheat Beer.

The Gauls are now somewhat far along and totally playable, but there is still a lot more to come. @jova is cranking out the graphics faster than I can get them added into the game. Like I mentioned earlier, I have to spend the next couple of days getting my computer working again, and then My Colony is way past due for an update, so I've absolutely got to work on that. Then, there will be yet another Gaul content update coming to Antiquitas, so stay tuned for a whole lot more!

Welcome to another exciting edition of the My Colony release notes! There were several changes made to the engine on this update, so let's see what all is new and what has changed.

My Colony v0.46.0 Changelog

New Stuff
  • Added new experimental lighting engine to the game
  • Colonies now go through a day/night cycle
  • Added in-game link to the release notes
  • New engine settings: Building Animations, Lighting Effects, Day/Night Cycle, Particle Effects
  • New structures: Small Light Post, Glow Goo, Paste Boiler, Atmosphere Scrubber
  • New ad-free content: Small Red Light Post, Small Green Light Post, Security Wall, Security Wall Light
Changes
  • Zolarg Mound now produces a small amount of food even if you have no sugar
  • All buildings can now be built in "chain" mode, regardless of size
  • When the game has a display width > 1000px, there is a new building confirmation window at the bottom of the screen that shows total cost of all queued buildings
  • The ice world is now a bit darker by default
Notes
The biggest change was the addition of the day/night cycle to the game, which has been requested several times before. It can be turned off if you do not like it. I was hesitant to add it because I though I would need to draw new night-time graphics for all of the buildings, but instead I made it so that buildings and vehicles can generate light sources. On my computer, iPhone, and 2 Android devices, I did not see any noticeable lag associated with adding light, but that does not mean it can't hurt performance, especially on a large colony. That is why the setting can be turned off in the engine settings, as can night-time mode altogether. There is still work to be done on the lighting effect, most notably the fact that lights can be seen through buildings when they should be covered. Blocking the lights will require more calculations and might impact performance, so I am looking at options of how to do it correctly. I think the lighting though adds a nice look to the game's graphics, without requiring any extra art skills on my behalf :-)

Some changes were made to make Zolarg ice map a bit easier. The Mound now produces some food on its own (without requiring sugar), and there is a new Paste Boiler building that is like a Zolarg version of the Atmosphere Generator. In terms of strength, it's actually somewhere between the regular human Atmosphere Generator and the Medium Atmosphere Generator.

Humans get a new Atmosphere Scrubber building which should help manage atmosphere levels. I have not turned on the negative atmosphere effects yet, since I realize that people who have been playing a long time probably have a ton of atmosphere built up, and I don't want to damage their colonies. The game is balanced to where a new colony starting out should be able to easily contain atmosphere before it becomes a problem, but for existing colonies, turning on the penalty right now could be an issue, so I will continue to wait on it.

The new (work in progress) construction bar for Desktop and Tablet users has been implemented. It shows the number of buildings you have queued up and their total cost. I think this will be helpful information, since a lot of times it can be easy to get a bunch of buildings ready to go and then run out of resources. Let me know on ways that I can improve it.

I also brought back the 'Private Charter' option, which can be found on the statistics screen. I didn't even know that it was removed, which was an oversight on my part. Should be back to working like it always has though. Additionally, more engine settings have been added, including the often requested 'Disable Animations' setting, although I don't know why you would want to turn off my glorious animations!

The next few updates will probably focus on new content/structures more than engine changes, although fixes will always be made. I also plan on further changes and refinement over the next few weeks, as I want everything with the engine to look polished before the release of Antiquitas later this fall. Since Antiquitas will not be receiving near-weekly updates like My Colony does (and it wont be released as a beta), I want things to be fairly locked up on that game by the time it's out. Speaking of Antiquitas, I've got a bunch of new structures coming over the next few days, featuring amazing artwork from our own forum user @jova , so stay tuned for that!

Anyway, that's it for this update. Stay tuned, cause there is a lot more to come!

Today the v1.24.0 patch for Antiquitas has been released and should be hitting all platforms within the next few days. This update rolls up all engine patches and upgrades from My Colony v0.85.0, v0.86.0, v0.87.0, v0.88.0, and v0.89.0. That's a lot of patches, and there are a handful of new features that are now available as a result.

Firstly, Antiquitas now uses the improved Dark theme that has been used on My Colony since v0.85.0. Along with simply having a darker interface, there are a whole host of UI improvements that go along with the change.

Significant improvements have been made to Region games, all the way from game saving down to the regional overview map.

The in-game stats sections have been expanded and now show more information than they have ever shown before.

There are many, many other small improvements that are too numerous to list, and you can read through the My Colony patch notes linked above if you are interested.

Finally, don't forget that the Antiquitas spin-off game Roman Tycoon is now available for free on all major platforms, so please check it out!

And if (for some reason) you still haven't played Antiquitas, find it for all major mobile and desktop platforms (including Steam) from the link below:

Enjoy!

The v1.25.0 patch for Antiquitas is now live and should be hitting all platforms within a couple of days. This update rolls up all of the bug fixes and engine updates from My Colony releases v0.90.0, v0.91.0, v0.92.0, v0.93.0, v0.94.0, and v0.95.0. Because of the sheer number of engine improvements in those My Colony releases, this is actually a fairly significant update for Antiquitas, so let's just highlight some of the things that are new.

To begin with, Antiquitas had the same texture mod bug that had been plaguing My Colony, which is now patched, so texture mods should now work properly on Antiquitas again.

Antiquitas desktop users now have the ability to change the location that the game saves their games. You can find this option in the Game Data menu, which you can access by selecting Options on the main title screen.

Build categories on the construction sidebar are now sorted in alphabetical order, making things easier to find.

On the desktop, pressing Crtl+R now brings up the 'Resource Search' bar, allowing you to quickly view the statistics for a specific resource. This key binding can be changed from the Engine Settings menu.

Next, you can now fine-tune adjust the volume of the in-game sound effects. Find the new volume slider in the Engine Settings menu.

You can now create a custom flag for your city. The new in-game flag maker can be found in the Statistics window, and there are a lot of different customization options to choose from.

On the resources readout display, resource numbers are now color coded in a gradient ranging from red to green, indicating at a glance how full (or empty) your resource storage levels are.

On top of these primary changes, there have been a ton of bug fixes, performance improvements, and UI improvements, especially on mobile and TV devices.

The v1.25.0 patch has been submitted to all app stores and should be going live pending app store approvals. Enjoy the updates, and stay tuned for more!

I just published the February update for Antiquitas, which is based mostly on the core code from My Colony v0.56.0 but with additional bug fixes, as well as a few fixes related to Antiquitas specifically (like the 'activate all' button not working). In addition to the new engine updates, there is some new content, as well as a new 32bit Windows Desktop client which you can download from here: https://market.ape-apps.com/antiquitas.html

Here is what is new:

New structures: Cultum Linum, Navalia, Naumachia
New Resources: Linen, Ships
New tech: Linen Production
New ad-free content: Imperial Statue

In addition to the above, the build requirements have been modified for several structures, mostly adding some of the newer resources as building requirements to later-game structures.

Coming next in the Antiquitas March 2018 update will be a new snow map and the beginning of the next civilization, the Gauls. Enjoy!

Hello everyone, I have just finished up work on My Colony v0.69.0, and it will be going out to all devices shortly.

My Colony v0.69.0 is yet another engine stability and bug fix release. In the last changelog, I talked about how My Colony has been basically blacklisted on Google Play due to having a high number of crashes. To combat this, I made several changes to the Android version of the game, including limiting map sizes, removing ads, removing the Galactic Emperor rewards, etc.

Amazingly, these changes had absolutely zero impact on the crash rate of the game. So most of them have been reversed in this update. My Colony v0.69.0 also rolls up two Antiquitas updates worth of engine patches, including a new Engine setting which allows users to disable the multi-threaded path finding engine.

For those who have been playing a long time, way back in v0.40.0, I moved all path finding operations to a separate worker thread in order to improve performance, and at the time it made a pretty big improvement. The only downfall to this was that it cost more RAM usage in order to work, because the games collision map had to be cloned and copied over to the worker thread in order for the pathfinder to be able to use it, since a Javascript object can not be accessed across two different threads. On PCs with a lot of RAM or on smaller maps, this was not such a big deal. On Android though, which restricts RAM available to each app far more than other platforms, it is possibly problematic, particularly on larger maps.

With this change, multi-threaded path finding is now turned off by default on Android only. I am testing to see if this has any impact on the crash rate. The new engine setting option is found at the very bottom of the Engine Settings list if you want to test the difference between the two path finding methods on different platforms. I suspect this might also help the issues some people have when they order a bot to go build something, and it just sits there. I am thinking the path resolution instructions were somehow getting lost in the cross-thread communications. We will see.

In my testing, turning off the multi-threading does not significantly lower performance. Back when I initially implemented the multi-threaded feature, the game calculated every path for every rover and colonist on the map. I have since made changes to where all paths are simulated, unless the unit starting or ending position is within the players viewport, as there was no reason so show an accurate path of a colonist walking from his house to his job if the player is not even going to see it happening.

There were several more bug fixes added that were carried over from the two most recent Antiquitas updates, but the path finding change was the major one, and represented a somewhat significant change in the underlying code, allowing the game to now support either single or multi-threaded operation.

Hopefully some of these changes do something to help the crash rate. My Colony has a crash rate on Android of around 7%. Oddly, Antiquitas, which runs on the exact same code base, has a crash rate of under 1%. Even more strange is the fact that Antiquitas features background music and higher resolution graphics, leading to more RAM consumption over My Colony, yet there are almost no crashes. Also strange is how I get virtually no support emails or forum posts from actual people about My Colony just force closing on Android, yet it is apparently happening to nearly 10% of users.

Regardless, the ongoing issues on Google Play have basically killed My Colony from a business standpoint. The following snippet from My Colony's weekly usage chart shows the exact point Google blacklisted the game on the Play Store:

Ignore the huge drop at the end, as that represents this week which is only half way through. The game has basically leveled off because that is the usage on Web, Desktop, Windows 10, and iPhone. There are essentially no new downloads coming from Android devices at this point, which as you can tell by the chart, amounted to about half of the My Colony userbase.

Here you can see the last 6 months worth of downloads from Google Play:

So anyway, that is where My Colony currently stands on Android. I have not added any new content this time, as I am trying to focus my time on getting the crashes resolved, if there is indeed any way to resolve them. And even if they are resolved, there is no guarantee that Google would ever un-blacklist the game anyway, so there is that.

Regardless though, there is another small change I added to the game this release. It has always bothered me that the regular textile mill was animated, by the synthetic textile mill was not. So I added animation to it!

So that's all for today. Similar to the v0.68.x series of updates, My Colony on Android will probably receive several more updates than the other platforms. It saw a 0.68.1, 0.68.2, 0.68.3, and a 0.68.4 update, and the same may happen with the release. Just trying to get it fixed. Even if the game never returns to profitability, I at least can hopefully get the engine fixed up so that it works properly for the next game.

Thanks for playing, much more to come!

After clean install, game won't start.

Before I had tried with ape-apps launcher and via Windows 10 store. Last one worked but crashed every time I tried to load my profile in order to load de premium license.

So I tried "antiquitas-win-x64-1.18.0" setup, shows the load screen and won't load the game. Clicking at the progress bar, the following is shown.

This is the text:

I have just completed the release of Antiquitas v1.22.0, which should be hitting all platforms within the coming days. This release contains all of the engine bug fixes and improvements from My Colony patches v0.79.0, v0.80.0, and v0.81.0, which includes tons of bug fixes, performance, and rendering improvements. It also includes the servant build counter indicators, as suggested in this thread.

In addition, I have also added the water shore-tile rendering improvements that have been in My Colony for some time. This makes areas that transition from water to land look a bit less jarring.

So that's about it for today's Antiquitas update. Over the next couple of months, a lot of my development time will be tied up with the upcoming game Colony Wars, although Antiquitas will continue to receive timely updates. So once again, thank you for playing Antiquitas, and stay tuned for more!

I have just put the finishing touches on Antiquitas v1.26.0, and the update should be hitting all platforms within the coming days. This is a major update which rolls up all features and bug fixes from the My Colony engine contained in MC patches v0.96.0, v0.97.0, v0.98.0, v0.99.0, v1.0.0, v1.1.0, and v1.2.0. Now, if you've followed My Colony, you know that there have been some major changes contained in those releases, and they are now hitting Antiquitas, so let's go over everything that's new!

The popular unit grouping feature is now available in Antiquitas! Now when you select a group of similar units, you can "stack" them into one single unit, combining their abilities into one. This provides much faster build times, and also improves game performance.

Certain buildings can now be moved. If a building does not also function as a resource drop-off point for your harvesting servants, you can now click on the 'move' button to place it in a different location. This comes in handy if you accidentally built something in the wrong place, or you just want to rearrange things as your city grows.

On the Gallia map (the only map that contains a river), rivers in Region games are now generated on a region-wide basis, instead of generated at the individual map level. This gives a greater since of continuity for Regional players, and it just looks nicer. You can have the game automatically generate the rivers, or you can supply your own template from an image file.

Also in Regions, you can now move servants between region maps. To do this, simply walk a servant unit to the edge of a map, and he will move over to the adjacent map. You can also now click on the border area around a region city and the game will ask you if you want to switch to that city, letting you move between regional areas without first having to back out to the region overview screen.

The largest change comes in the way that the simulation is handled behind the scenes. As with My Colony, Antiquitas now runs on a statistical based system, rather than trying to simulate the lives of each individual citizen. This change greatly improves the performance of the game, but does come with some changes you need to be aware of.

Each residential building in the game now has internal rating statistics that you will need to maximize in order to run an efficient city.

You can see a detailed explanation on how this works in this post, but essentially you will need to make sure that each residential structure has adequate Medical, Educational, and Entertainment access, in order to keep your citizens happy and productive.

In order to help with these changes, several structures in the game have been buffed in this update. The Medical and Education ratings of the Taberna Medica, House of the Sun-Nu, and Druid Healer Hut have been increased. The Education ratings of the Grammaticus, Scholae Magister, Scholae Rethor, House of the Scribe, School of the Scribes, Druid Healer Hut, Druid Ring, and Druid Assembly have all been increased. Finally, the Shrine of Jupiter, Shrine of Bastet, and Bard Stand now offer a minor medical rating boost. With these changes, most existing cities, if well designed, should not have to make many changes in order to "just work" with the latest update.

You will now have to deal with the birth, death, and aging of your population. There is a new Age Distribution chart in the statistics window to let you see how old your citizens are.

You will now need to provide additional housing for minors and retired citizens, who are not a part of the labor force.

In order to help you manage these changes and micro-manage your city production and output, there are two new slider options added to the stats screen for individual buildings, the Production Priority and Employment Capacity sliders.

Using these new sliders, you can prioritize buildings, making them fill up with workers before other structures. You can also put a cap on the amount of workers each building has, so that a building that requires a large number of workers does not suck up all of your available workforce. Using these sliders, you can tweak your city's industrial output to your liking.

There were a ton of engine changes in this update, but I am hoping that the transition is smooth. These changes have been in My Colony for a little while now, and I think a majority of the kinks have now been worked out. So that's all for today, I hope you enjoy the update, and stay tuned for more improvements to come!

The moment everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived, the release of My Colony v0.50.0 - the fighting 50!

50 is a nice round number, but is the update nice and round as well? Let's take a look at what is new and what has changed:

My Colony v0.50.0 Changelog

New Stuff
  • New Structures: Bloodletting Station, Spire of Knowledge, Quantum Sugar Cloner, Uranium Silo
  • New Unit: Ancientbug
  • New premium content: Orb of Radiance
Changes
  • GBT: Added cooldown time between GBT trades, increased transaction civics costs, GBT contracts with lot sizes above your trading capacity no longer appear, You can no longer trade in lot sizes above your gifting capacity, The server can now limit the size and price of your trades.
  • Storage Limits added: Aluminum, Uranium, Gold, and Clay now have storage requirements.
  • Resource Decay: Resources left sitting outside of storage will now decay.
  • Collect All: You can now collect all gifts at once with a single click.
  • Message Reporting: There is a new in-game mechanism to report abusive PM's.
  • Rebalancing: Antanium Synthesis Lab and Triantanium Refinery now offer a small amount of storage. Money generation from the Investment Bank and Clothing Sweatshop has been reduced.
  • Tech Window: Each available tech now shows what new structures is contributes to.
  • Online Colonies: Colonies played in online mode now require an internet connection to play.
  • Right Click: Mouse users can now quickly move vehicles using the right click button.
  • UI Changes: A bunch of small UI improvements carried over from Antiquitas v1.0.0 were added.
  • Galactic Emperor Tax: Possibly the last tax the emperor will ever collect!
Additional Notes

I had intended this update to be a big Zolarg content update, but instead was required to spend most of my time making changes to the GBT and it's associated API. As some will know, I've never really been thrilled about having the GBT in the game, and am even less thrilled in having to micromanage it. Ideally people would be able to conduct themselves as adults and treat the GBT system with respect, but I'm afraid that is not what has transpired. The actions of a few bad apples have thus forced my hand to really crack down on the Galactic Board of Trade, and several changes have now been implemented to that effect.

The first issue was involving the actual server API which the game contacts in order to do trade deals on the GBT. I threw the script together quickly to facilitate an in-game trading feature and didn't put any effort into security. This made it easy to exploit. Since the vast majority of players play in offline mode, I never gave it much thought, but over the last week, one of our players with a lot of free time on his hands really took it upon himself to hit the API hard and did a significant amount of damage to the online in-game economy. New security measures have been added, but they are not present in older versions of the game, and the server API cannot be fully patched without cutting off access for older versions of the game. For this reason, in one weeks time, access to online play from any version of My Colony older than v0.50.0 will be disabled. So if you play online, please update as soon as the release is available on your platform.

Here is also a first and only warning on this matter. Every call to the API is now logged and any user taking advantage of any exploit will be permanently banned from the service altogether. All of your colonies will be banned as will any device that you have been logged as having connecting to the service with. I do not care if you paid for premium or not, you can still play the game offline.

Other issues with the GBT involve using it for storage or using it as a means of transporting large amounts of goods from one colony or another. I don't consider this an exploit, but new measures have been put in place to block it from being used in this manner. The purpose of the GBT is to facilitate trades between colonies and nothing more. Using it for other purposes interferes with the pricing structure of the market and has an impact on the in-game economy for any player who plays the game online.

There is a new Galactic Trade Authority bot that monitors all trades on the GBT and logs trades which are considered grossly out of step with the current market realities. There is no auto-banning or "three strikes your out" feature associated with this. Everything is logged and will be reviewed by a human moderator (me). If it is decided that you are taking advantage of the system, your access to the GBT may be blocked.

There was also a new Galactic Emperor tax levied. This is the Emperor's highest tax ever, coming in at 95% of everything over $750m, and 100% of everything over $10b. This was imposed because of the API hacker who auto-purchased every contract on the market, leaving some players with an ungodly amount of money. If you got your money legitimately, then I am sorry, but this is the way it is. You can thank the abusers for the tax.

The good news is that as of this update, the resources of an individual colony can now be edited directly by the server if need be. For that reason, there probably will not have to be anymore global galactic emperor taxes levied. Because of this change though, all colonies in online mode are now required to have a constant internet connection. Really, this should have been a requirement from the start. If you cannot be constantly online, then consider playing the game in offline mode.

There have also been issues with users sending abusive messages through the in-game messaging system, including threats and other forms of harassment. To combat this I have added a new reporting feature which you can see in all new mail messages that arrive. Message reports will be reviewed by a human, and if you are conducting yourself in a manner which I do not feel is right for the game, then you will be banned from the service.

Anyway, like I said before, I really hate having to be a nanny here for the game. I'd much rather spend my time adding new content and features. If you don't like the new changes and don't want to see any more controls added in the future, then please encourage your fellow players to use their heads when playing the game. The API isn't there for my own benefit, I'd just as soon get rid of online play altogether, as it caused more headache than it is worth. The feature exists entirely for the benefit of those who want to play online, but if it can't be handled properly I have no problem taking it away. The vast majority of users play offline and wouldn't even notice if it was removed.

On to better things, you will notice some UI improvements that have been carried over from Antiquitas (which is now available and you should download (and 5 star) from here: http://apps.ape-apps.com/antiquitas/ ). Zolarg also received a few new things, with more coming in the next release. There is a new Ancientbug which is their version of the E.T. Builder, and their first alien structure is the Quantum Sugar Cloner which is a vast improvement over the Sugar Farm and takes up far less room. Insectoids will be getting a lot more alien content in the next few updates.

Also, there are only a couple of resources left now that do not require storage, and that will be soon changing. Keep that in mind and plan your colonies accordingly.

Between now and the end of the year, the updates are going to focus on Zolarg content. Once 2018 hits, the Reptilians will be making their way into My Colony, and the way they operate is going to be a bit different than the other races. They will make the difference between Humans and Zolarg seem insignificant. But until then, enjoy the update as there is still a lot more to come!

The glorious January update for Antiquitas has just been pushed out to all platforms and should be arriving on your device of choice within the next few days. Here is a look at what is new.

First and foremost, Antiquitas v1.3.0 contains all of the new engine updates and features found in My Colony v0.52.0, so if you are interested to know what that consists of, feel free to read the changelog for that release:
https://www.ape-apps.com/viewpage.php?p=12141

Those new updates include the new Map Editor feature (premium users only) which allows you to build, play, and share custom maps right from within the game.

Additionally, this update contains no less than 10 new structures, 1 new tech, 2 new units, and 4 new resources! Included in the new goodies are a new theater occupation tree, the a Clay resource which gives way to Bricks and Pottery, and Chariot construction so you can build your own little Circus Maximius (the Circo).

In the next update, a lot of the existing structures are going to have their building requirements modified to require bricks and pottery, but I thought I would hold off on the requirement to let existing cities build up a stockpile before making the changeover.

Finally, this update removes Facebook login support and replaces it with Ape Apps Account login, the same login you use to access this forum. The benefit of the change is that now if you purchase Antiquitas on one platform, it will be remembered by your account and automatically unlock the game on other platforms you sign in on. Because of this, I will no longer be messing with giving out .amk files for people who purchased the game on one app store and want to unlock it on another. If you want to carry your purchase over, just make an Ape Apps Account and sign in.

So anyway, that is what's new here. If you like what you see then keep the suggestions coming and tell your friends about the game! Next update will introduce offline LAN/WiFi based multiplayer, so stay tuned for that. Enjoy!

Antiquitas v1.6.0 should now be heading to a device near you, and this is Part 1 of the Gaul update! Yes, the second civilization in Antiquitas, the Gauls, have arrived, and with them come a new map and a bunch of new structures.

My poor fingers don't want to type out all of the new buildings that are in this update, but there are 17 in total.

When you play the new Gaul map, you will also notice there might be a couple of Roman or German farms scattered along the edges of the map. These don't do anything yet and you might be tempted to destroy them, but don't do it! In the next update, the Gauls will be getting a new Raiding Party which will allow you to "Raid" the Roman and German settlements for goods and coin. The feature would have been in this release, but it requires a few more coding changes than I had anticipated, so it will wait until next time.

The Gauls are still not complete. Later on they unlock the ability to build a bunch of Roman stuff, which will probably be removed or changed in the future. If you put these structures in your city though, they wont be taken away, so feel free to do it.

Once again, @jova has done an excellent work on the graphics for this update, so feel free to send him your congratulations on a job well done!

Antiquitas v1.6.0 should be arriving to most platforms within a day or two. It is available right now on both the Web and through the Ape Apps Launcher, and will be making its way everywhere else as the various apps stores give it the seal of approval. Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for lots more to come!

The Nations of OZ, or NOZ is a My Colony Federation. However, with the booming interests of our members we have decided to branch out to Antiquitas.

The Nationes ex OZ Crest

The Garuda Crest is the Emblem if Nationes Ex OZ. The Garuda with its keen eyes symbolizes perspicacity, courage, strength and immortality, but is also considered the "king of the skies" and messenger of the highest gods. Not to be confused with the Roman Aquila, the crest depicted here shows close ties with Nations of Oz. The Nations of OZ are a group of Wizards that conjure with their magical orbs. The Orb is also shown in this crest, with the Garuda chasing it. May the Nationes ex OZ, Antiquitas sister of the Nations of OZ rise.

The Antiquitas Channel resides in our Discord Server.

The Nations of OZ boasts an international server, with people from Singapore, Canada, USA, Indonesia, Chile, India, UK, Romania, Netherlands, Belgium, Philippines, Spain, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Australia and so much more!

How to join us?

What is DISCORD?

Discord is a free voice and text chat app for gamers and works on both your desktop and phone. We all meet on Discord to share, and enjoy each others company while we wait for our storehouses to be full. Come on by, and meet the people of My Colony face to face. Join us as we step into a world of fantasy.

Wiki : Discord is a proprietary freeware VoIP application designed for gaming communities. Discord runs on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux, and in a web browser. As of May 2017, Discord has over 45 million users.

Until the date, where like My Colony, where leaders come together to define the rules of a what a Antiquitas Federation should and should not be, the title and post shall remain.

Again, I reiterate. The Channel is temporary. And it is such that new members would not be left alone on a server that has very little people. Discord calls it a channel, we repurpose it to be for our NOZ Antiquitas Federation. Two Federations can exist on one server Gaul, albeit they are separate entities.

I hope you do not revisit this subject.

So come by to NOZ, where the NOZ Antiquitas Federation exists.

(Love me BLARG and Nunez)
"Antiquitas is growing, and as the game grows we need to follow in MyColony's footsteps, to build a community were we can foster and grow." Those were the words I first used to entice the glorious people of the FFF into a partnership. Thanks to Nunez and BLARG I have been able to revamp the server and spread the word of Antiquitas (I mean what's a guy with no experience on building a server gonna ever do well?). Turns out it's attracting big servers. I made a partnership! I know from nobody to slightly elevated random dude! Awesome let's continue....

Who are the FFF?
I'm glad you totally asked! Just imagine a very big building with lots of shiny new modern stuff and then imagine it's in a average city in a average country. They are that shiny modern building! You see my analogy was terrible so if you didn't get the point of it I'll explain it. They are above average. See it doesn't sound as awesome? Thanks for judging me. Well at least I've whittled away some of the precious time before our inevitable deaths. Oh wait that's a bad thing. And as death nears closer why not spend that time in an awesome discord community? I mean death's hardly gonna be fun so squeeze all the fun out of life but share cause sharing is caring. Anyway I've talked here to long and said too little, now to be lazy and repeat what I wrote before....

We bring you Sen- you know what that's a long name, why did he choose it? The answer to both is just use SPQR (Yes I'm lazy and I'm seriously gonna use this material so stop judging me with those beady eyes) As Emperor of Rome and Cheiftan of the Tribes of Gaul I promise that we will bring Antiquitas to glory, I mean hopefully..... (What? Stop looking at me like that!)

What has SPQR got that othere Antiquitas Discord Servers haven't? A server.
This Server has 7 roles (Actually now we have 9 roles now, I could change it but then you would think I've done nothing.)! I know! It's more than 6 ( don't need to change that. Again stop looking at me like that!) ! Each Role is adapted to a purpose and of course in the future more will be added! I mean what could be better? Everyone else you say? Pffff- no. (Hahahaha not anymore old me! Or you! New me thinks that because of the FFF not everything is better! You still l think everything is better? Dangit.)

With tons of help and guidance you will love it at the SPQR (SPQR - FFF? FFF- SPQR? SPQR? FFFQPR?), with features added all the time- listen that's gonna be hard to furfill, I mean I do have to sleep.... With features added...... nearly all the time. (Jokes on you I have Nunez and BLARG and they don't live in Britain! It means more production! Mwahahahaah oh your actually still here? Well sorry you had to see that, moving on!)

"SPQR a future- wait no a past with grapes and public baths cause it's Rome not Mars"

JOIN US NOW ON DISCORD
https://discord.gg/y7N4JrS

Wait- Are you just gonna end it there?
Erm yes
What about the picture?

There
You not gonna add something original?
Nope
Add something more!
Okay! Jeez that was intense! Okay erm.... We have another bot? Oh and some people! We have 5 bots just one is secret! I just ruined it's secrecy. We are gonna add more bots! We have quirky names for them, the server is Roman themed with quirky Roman names to the channels! One of our bots has a unique level system with a cool intro to the server and leaving message.... but you will never leave right? It's awesome in to many ways! We have updates for- hold on! If you're coming to the server you won't need this information! You aren't coming? Why not? You are? Great! See you there!

(Hahahah pretend it's the right symbol Gaul, pretend you didn't miss click another similar picture that could of been the feds symbol. Thats not even meant to be a joke.... I actually can't be bothered to find it in my images....)
6y ago
Did you know?

NOZ has a Antiquitas Channel? The Nationes ex OZ was formed to give players of Antiquitas a channel where they can discuss and gather.

Did you know?

The Nationes ex OZ server for Antiquitas has already been built and operational. However, Antiquitas will only move from the temporary channel to the new server when membership hits 20.

Today I am pleased to announce an exciting new update to Antiquitas. v1.12.0 should be making its way to all platforms over the coming days (pending app store approvals), and is by far the largest update to Antiquitas yet. You may recall that last update a few weeks ago included a new Aegyptus map. But how can you have an Aegyptus map without a brand new Egypt civilization?

So today's update is part one of the new Egyptian update series, and includes over 30 new structures, including:

- Desert Well
- Desert Storehouse
- Slave Merchant
- Small Mud Hut
- House of Scribe
- Djed of Osiris
- Desert Track
- Small Egyptian Granary
- Medium Desert Storehouse
- Egyptian Stone Hut
- Egyptian Bronze Smelter
- Egyptian Toolshop
- Small Egyptian Mint
- Small Egyptian Bakery
- Brick Factory
- Desert Stone Path
- Paved Road
- Palm Tree
- Small Egyptian House
- Exciseman
- Egyptian Brewery
- Egyptian Blacksmith
- Small Tavern
- Egyptian Goat Farm
- Small Temple of Horus
- School of the Scribes
- Town Market
- Town Well
- Shrine of Bastet
- Decorative Palm Tree
- Egyptian Decorative Torch

If you appreciate the new Egyptian content, please send messages of thanks and encouragement to @jova who has done a fantastic job on the new civilization artwork. Then get out there and start building up your Egyptian city. Obviously the civ is not complete yet, but there is enough there already to take you up to independence. And this is but a taste of what is to come over the next few Egyptian updates to Antiquitas.

Enjoy!

I have just finished up work on Antiquitas v1.21.0 and it should be hitting all supported platforms within the next few days here.

This update brings all of the engine improvements and fixes from My Colony patches 0.75, 0.76, 0.77, and 0.78, which includes many improvements for regions, pathfinding, the encyclopedia, and other things.

Also new in this release is the snow covered Alpine map, available for all civilizations.

It has a bit less wood and food than other maps, but more stone and metal deposits. It's also snowing, and will make you feel sorry for those poor servants out there toiling away practically naked.

In addition, new build categories for Roads and Storage have been added, in order to make finding things a bit easier. I was a little conservative on what I put in those categories, so if people want to see them expanded with more structures, just let me know.

Finally, I have taken note of the requests to add a unit count to the building sidebar for servants. This is slated for the upcoming v0.79.0 release of My Colony, after which the engine change will make its way to the next update of Antiquitas.

That's all for today's Antiquitas update! Have a happy new year, and stay tuned for more!
5y ago
So today I decided to experiment with porting the My Colony multiplayer server over to Antiquitas, since the two games share much of the same code. You can test the new features in the current online beta build of the game:

https://www.apewebapps.com/antiquitas/beta/

It may be a bit buggy or it may just work great, so please if you play Antiquitas, try out the beta and let me know if it has any issues before I make this live! There are no charters on the server yet, so the first players to independence will pretty much be running the online for this game at the beginning.

In addition, the three civ's Docks structure (docks, gaulish docks, and egyptian docks) now all serve as "GBT" style trading centers.

Anyway, check it out and thanks for your help!

Antiquitas has just been updated to v1.29.0 and the patch should be hitting all platforms over the coming days. This update rolls up all of the performance and bug fix patches from My Colony updates v1.10.0, v1.11.0, and v1.12.0. In addition, it adds jailing and security capabilities to multiple buildings for each empire, addressing the issue from the previous update where Crime could not be controlled.

As with recent versions of My Colony, the native Desktop Client (https://market.ape-apps.com/antiquitas.html) cannot be auto-updated from v1.28.0 to v1.29.0, so you will have to uninstall the previous version and re-download this update. This does not impact the Steam client or the Progressive Web App. This update also adds a native desktop client for Apple M1 processor (ARM) based macs.

Just a heads up, starting with 0.47.0, the next several months of My Colony updates will only contain new structures and bug fixes/performance improvements, no new game-changing features. This is to get the engine stabilized and cleaned up before the release of Antiquitas, which I hope to have published on mobile app stores prior to Thanksgiving (U.S.).

After Antiquitas I will be trying to get Death 3d finalized for mobile release before Christmas, which will consume a bit of time as well.

My Colony will continue to receive regularly scheduled content updates in the meantime. Normal feature enhancements will resume once Antiquitas and D3d are out. Thanks!
7y ago
Just pushed the v0.49.0 update for My Colony, which should be arriving shortly to all platforms. On the content front this is a minor update, but there are some important under the hood changes. This will also be the last update before Antiquitas is released, which I now plan on spending the next couple of weeks getting finalized.

This biggest change in this release is vastly expanded gamepad support, particularly on Android. I have also submitted this build to both the Android TV and Amazon Fire TV app stores, although I do not yet know if they will gain approval. If they are ultimately approved, an Xbox One submission will be happening before the end of the year.

The other noticeable change is a new item in Engine Settings which (on some devices) can greatly improve rendering performance, at the expense of having several graphical glitches. Play with it and see what works best for you.

You may also notice that the resource text has been made slightly larger and should be a bit easier to see. Also, if a building on your sidebar is "red"ed out because you cannot afford it and you then gain the required resources, you can now mouse-over the building to refresh it's affordability status without waiting for the engine to redraw the whole sidebar.

Most of the other changes are not really noticeable on the surface. I rewrote the particle effects library from scratch, but you can't really tell from an end user perspective.

As I said, the next couple of weeks here will be devoted to getting Antiquitas finished for release. After that, I have several new UI upgrades planned for My Colony that I wanted to hold off on, as to not introduce any new big glitches. I also plan on doing several large Zolarg updates before Christmas. And remember in early January, the Reptilians will be making their way to My Colony, and they are going to be a whole new ballgame!

One final note, My Colony has now surpassed 1,000,000 downloads on Google Play, so that you everybody for your support!!!!

Anyway, that's it for now. Hope the update runs smooth, let me know if it doesn't, and please download (and 5 star 🙂 ) Antiquitas when it comes out to help give it a boost on the 'new release' ratings!

Antiquitas is now on Google Play!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ape.games.antiquitas

If you have an Android, please download and if you are compelled, leave a favorable review! Good downloads and reviews at the beginning may push the game to the "hot and new" list, which would be life changing lol.

Game has also been submitted to Windows and iOS, I will post updates when those versions are live.

Antiquitas is now also on the Windows 10 Store:

For the past month I have been busy traveling and working on other things, but I am now back ready to return to My Colony. First, over the next few days I am going to push out an Antiquitas update with some new structures from our friend @jova , and then it is on to v0.53.0 of My Colony. There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed in the update, plus some new stuff. Here is the current plan:
  • bug fixes
  • start adding the Reptilians
  • in-game chat for commonwealths
  • offline multiplayer
  • make it so the galactic emperor only gifts useful resources
Most of these are pretty self explanatory, but I wanted to just touch on the offline multiplayer part. This is multiplayer for games on the same LAN or WiFi connection. It is going to be a little different than the online multiplayer. There is no GBT or commonwealths or anything that requires a central server. What happens is the game searches for other players on your network and will allow you to bring up a list of those who are playing (looks like the diplomacy screen sort of, and kind of works like finding multiplayer games in minecraft PE), and then allows direct resource trading and messaging between these players. There are no real limits in offline multiplayer, since I don't really care if offline players cheat or not.

The offline multiplayer will be supported on all platforms, so if you are on your PC and your grandma is on her iPad or something, you should be able to do resource trades. For people playing in the web browser, it will require additional software to be installed, or you can just use the native client instead.

Eventually I will make it so that offline colonies on the same device can trade resources too, but that wont be in this update.

Anyway, that is what is coming for v0.53.0. Work will probably begin on Monday, with the focus this weekend being on Antiquitas. For you Antiquitas players out there, @jova has supplied me with 10 epic new buildings. The update is also getting the map editor feature and other engine tweaks from the last My Colony update, as well as new bug fixes that were not yet in the last My Colony update.

That's all for now. Stay tuned!
