I like that you can upgrade buildings but you are unable to upgrade premium content. I can't upgrade solar towers to diamond solar towers. Can that be fixed?

I went to the research area of the game and selected the one that lets you brew alcohol. There were a bunch of things that needed by and than the name of the building. It does not show up in my buildings tab (PC) and I don't know how to get it.
