Military
It would be cool to have a military base or fleet base for random pirate attacks also or a colony can have a raider base that brings in lots gold and small amounts of other resources from other parts of the galaxy as booty . but make it cost high from 10000000 to 50000000 with full up grades.

It could be a thing where you send a group of, say 50, colonists to an uninhabitable planet to stay temporarily and explore and gather it's resources. You could give an amount of time, say 24 hrs, that they would stay, and the shorter the time period, the less resources you would get, and the longer the time, the more resources you get, but the more chance of some or all of them dying on the mission.

It could be a nice addition for those who play offline and can't build a commonwealth with colonies providing resources that can't be obtained on the main colony.
If it would be implemented, it would be in a way that your colony cannot be attacked itself, or you cannot attack other colonies. The idea of building expensive star ships and sending them out on raiding missions to raid resources from imaginary non-existent colonies might be doable.

I like it BUT (here's the catch) it cant be so cheap. I recommend it to be like 1,000,000 Aluminum and 1,000,000 Wood and more.

I wonder if it wouldn't be a bad idea to have wars that the player doesn't participate in but instead produces arms and weapons for. So the player never actually fights, but can make money from war profiteering that happens between the different large colonies.
I also really like the idea of being able to send off raiding parties against those imaginary enemies. I wonder if it there would simply be a technology branch that limits the type of place that can be raided. So at the begining you get to raid equivalent to stone era colony, and as the tech is produced that can be used in weapons you can produce more expensive ships and weapons usable in the raids.
