I feel like the in game chat is rarely used coz peeps don't know if anyone has written anything there. I play clash of clans which as well has a similar feature of chatting but it's way more active coz it just shows an '!' meaning that someone has messaged or shows the no. Of messages in place of '!'
I would love to see this feature in my colony. It would help the new peeps a lot as they would easily be able to communicate rather than the present private message system.

Yeah I agree with this. The Commonwealth chat takes up a decent chunk of the screen so I normally don't have it open but I can't tell if I get any messages so I can respond quickly. If there was some notification over the button that sort of flashes a little to get your attention or something to that effect would be nice.
