Hm... so far Obsidian is only used for one or two buildings on the Zolarg colonies: https://www.my-colony.com/reference/general.html?Type=Resource#Obsidiobug
Painting - looks like no use as of yet.

They were both just added in the recent update, so little use yet for them.

I am bumping this post to find out what paintings are used for... I notice that many are being sold and bought through the Board of trade, but still am unsure what they would be used for.
