ape app launcher not opening for ubuntu

i have ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS. i downloaded the tar.gz file for linux and extracted the file. but when i open the ape app launcher, nothing happens. does not even show any loading screen or any indication that it is starting. please help

For Ubuntu, try installing the following library, and then see if it opens:
sudo apt-get install libgconf-2-4
Let me know if it works!

For Ubuntu, try installing the following library, and then see if it opens:

I'm using ubuntu 16.04 LTS and installing libgconf-2-4 didn't help. I'm getting a seg fault.

Using Ubuntu 18.04.2 and I get "there is no application installed for "shared Library" files. Do you want to search for an application to open this file? when I click yes I get an Additional MIME Types Reqired notification. I installed the above library and still get this.

never mind, I found a copy of the old launcher and it works fine and is updating now

Ok, I was able to play last night but today when I tried the launcher I get the shared library thing again

I'm not great at Terminal, did I do this correct?

~/Desktop/Ape Apps Launcher$ gnome-open Ape\ Apps\ Launcher
