For the last few weeks I have been working on a brand new project, which is why things have been slower than normal on the My Colony front. Now that I have a lot of the base engine work done, I will have more time to get My Colony updated, but today I wanted to share a sneak preview of a new game I have started that will be coming out sometime this year.
This game is being built from a modified/improved version of the Death 3d engine, but with additions such as NPC/character interactions and dialog and a "continuous world" model with no level breaks or loading screens. I have also created a procedural dungeon generator for the game to help me create more content, and I might make some "making of" type videos as I progress in the project.
I am designing this game somewhat as an RPG. There is a main storyline, but also side quests you can do, and the game is going to be filled with a ton of story and lore. This is my first game where I actually wrote down the backstory before hand so that I can have a somewhat cohesive world history and character development.
I am also going to be recording a ton of dialog for the game. I have already recorded around 100 clips and I'm still at the beginning stages of the game. And if anybody in the community is interested in lending their voice to the game, you can let me know. I'd love to have more voice actors than just myself and my wife!
The game will feature multiple towns connected by an over-world and tons of dungeons and caves to explore with secrets everywhere. I am using the game Morrowind as an inspiration, although obviously I am just one guy so it wont be as big as that game, lol. I probably am not going to have a lot of stat and inventory management in the game, more like story+quests+action+somewhat open world.
Most games I make I just create a small concept and then release them, and then develop them further based on user feedback. On this one I plan to make the entire game before releasing. I plan to release to Desktop (including Steam), Ape Web Apps/Ape Launcher and Android. Maybe iOS, depending on how it turns out. Game will be paid/premium only on all platforms except for Web, which will allow you to play the first few dungeons for free without requiring premium. I don't plan on having any advertising at all, or micro-transactions of any sort. Mobile advertising is basically dead at this point, and in June it is going away from the Windows Store completely, so I am no longer going to be using the advertising business model for any new projects.
So that's what I've been working on. Stay tuned for more info/details!
