Sloped Terrain

I thought the hard-cliff block edges was making MC2 look too minecraft-y, so I've been replacing most of the edges with softer slopes:

It was actually way more difficult to program than I anticipated, mostly because I am not "Mr. Math" or "Mr. 3d" by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyway, it is far from perfect, but I think it looks a lot better than the more block-y style it had before. There will still be a hard straight cliff if two adjacent tiles have > 1 tile of elevation between them, or if a cliff is next to the water.

I think this is also better because it will allow rovers to drive pretty freely without the need for the player to do manual grading or sloped road building, which I figured would get annoying considering the sheer amount of elevation changes.

Much better :)

Just one little thing.. :D The softer slopes can have a little different coloration, angle-based for simulate shadow?

South lighter, west / east a little darker, north darker.

I like that!

Good idea Ansom. But the sun needs to appear in the sky first :) Waiting for that!

Yeah I do need to get the sun/lighting locked down. Will be cool the able to watch it rise/set and give a nice looking day/night cycle to the planet.

Nice :)

The cliff under water will receive the same treatment?

The lighting changes throughout the day. This is high noon-ish

Adjustments still need to be made of course

A day is roughly 10 minutes or so, I haven't exactly calculated it though so I could be off on that

Nice, now that MC2 has a day night cycle, perhaps its time to add more features around that. For instance, in MC1, solar panels work 24/7 even during the night, which doesn't make sense. So maybe instead of producing static amounts of power, solar panels produce none during the night, and ramp up power production in the evening until the sun is fully up, and then ramp down when the sun sets.

With this I think batteries would be needed, A simple way to put it would be utilities have a max that they can hold and batteries would increase that cap. So it would be like Amount Of Power Used/ Available Power/ Power Capacity
