I feel like I have finally reached a semblance of game maturity since I just made my first billion a few minutes ago. Of course now I have to contend with building more so I can reach the end of the tech trees and ponder whether to go independent.

you don't make a commonwealth for making money, usually. when you got independent, you have enough money for years. I give my member a bit of my money. Because they need in more then me and it's just laying around in my Colony.

yeah it's better to have a big production of everything before getting independent. I don't understand this ppl who rush independence and have a 2k population and 100m GDP commonwealth with just nothing.

Once I researched Artificial Intelligence and saw the requirements for researching Mega Structures I knew immediately that I won't be declaring independence anytime soon. I am of the mind that you should have researched all the non-independence technologies before declaring independence.

I thought I would need Civics. but now I know I will need Research a lot more in the near future.

yeah, spamming this small research labs is good in the beginning. once you can unlock "artificial intelligence", you should unlock the research that costs 85k research. it gives you a seriously better research building.

Behind having researched all non-independence technologies? Self-sufficiency. If you cannot be self-sufficient then you are not ready to go at it alone.

but you can be self sufficient without having this techs. And you should always be self sufficient.
