Best way to create multiple resource-specific colonies

I have my main colony that has declared independence and became a common wealth, however since it is human there are resources that the only way to get is via trade. I am wanting to make more colonies of other types so that I can get these resources myself so I have a few questions as follows:

1) Is there any way to have more than one colony open at a time on my computer?
2) What is the best way to go about setting up colonies just for resource farming?
3) What is a good general order of resource farms I should go in? (aka what resource should I farm first, second, third, etc.)
4) What common issues will I run into that I can/should prepare for ahead of time?
5) Any other advice/pointers?

I used to play the game on my phone but that was over a year ago before people made sub-colonies for resource farming(AFAIK), so I'm still a noob when it comes to the interaction between multiple colonies. (All I've done is buy random resources on GBT and had 3 random colonies join my commonwealth)

If you are on a pc then you can run multiple simultaneous instances of the desktop client. As long as they are not maximized they will all progress. I would play them one at a time. By the time you get to 5 or 6 you'll figure it out. I focussed on aluminum and uranium. Advance through till you can build the GBT.

On #4 my advice is to not slow down. When you think about building a building, build 4 instead. Build 4 or 8 vehicle factories and crank out dem cars.

1. Having more then one colony open isn't a very good idea. Maybe two to three. Use multiple windows, not tabs for that. You can't have your eyes on all of them.

2. Think on a fitting Jobs-Housing-Entertainment-Healthcare Layout

3. basics first. You will really struggle to build a map full with aluminium generator when you don't have steel, gold and ore colony yet.

4. If you decide on having a good Production on every single colony, you'll be fine, if not, you'll run out of water and food fast if you have, like you want to, have more then one colony open at the same time.

5. build out your main colony first. If it has a stable production of everything, you can start with subs. but not before that.
Its me Lego.
